Rule Changes Effective June 17, 2005
EQUIPMENT
RULES A. All pitchers must wear shin guards. No exceptions. The Winter Haven Senior Softball Club provides shin
guards. B.
All bats, gloves, balls, & personal equipment must be in the dugout
during the game. THE
RUN-BY RULE HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. Regular
baseball rules apply now. A.
If the runner touches and passes second base and runs straight into the
outfield grass, he will be declared out for
running out of the baseline. B. If the runner touches and runs past a base in the baseline, he must be tagged out, whether he is returning
to the base or attempting to advance to the next base. C.
The runner does not need to
retag any base in order to advance to the next base. THE
AUTOMATIC FORCE RULE HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. Regular
baseball rules now apply. Rather than tagging the base before the runner reaches the base for the runner to be declared out, the defensive player
must apply a tag if the runner is not forced to the base.
RUNNING THE BASES
The base runner must now run directly to the base. TAGGING
THE RUNNER Tagging
the runner between bases will be allowed except between third base and home
plate, unless the runner is returning
to third base before crossing the commitment line. No tags are allowed after
the runner crosses the commitment line. The
defensive player with the ball must touch the original home plate
before the runner touches the second home plate for the runner to be declared
out. SLIDING OR DIVING
INTO A BASE IS PERMITTED.
ORANGE LINE RULE All outfield players must
play on or behind the outfield orange line until the ball is hit.
All infielders, including the middle fielder, must play
on the infield dirt. Violations
award the batter first base. |
